Pietermaritzburg Disaster Response Brings Relief After Fire and Flood Devastation
170 + Individuals Assisted
On 12 April 2025, CityHope Disaster Relief launched a vital response effort in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, where a combination of fires and severe rainfall between January and March left multiple communities in crisis. Many families were displaced, their homes and belongings destroyed, and access to food and hygiene essentials severely limited.
In partnership with local leaders and thanks to the support of generous donors, CityHope distributed:
- 170 x 10kg bags of maize
- Hope Kits filled with comfort and care items
- Hygiene parcels including soap, toothbrushes, sanitary products, cleaning supplies
- Plastic sheeting
This intervention addressed urgent needs by ensuring food security, supporting sanitation and health, and offering emotional encouragement through the Hope Kits. For many, it was a first step toward recovery, restoring a sense of dignity and reminding families they are not alone.
CityHope remains committed to standing with these communities as they rebuild and recover. We extend our sincere thanks to every partner and supporter who made this swift and compassionate response possible. Together, we bring hope.
