Over 3,000 homes were severely damaged or destroyed, and public infrastructure including schools, roads, and healthcare facilities suffered significant damage. Tragically, 11 people lost their lives, with seven fatalities reported in Tongaat.

CityHope Disaster Relief focused our efforts on Magwaveni Township in Tongaat, where nearly all homes were destroyed by the tornado. From June 28th to July 12th, we carried out an extensive assessment and vetting process to ensure the legitimacy of those in need, amidst challenges of corruption in official beneficiary lists. Through our own verification process, we identified 600 households requiring urgent assistance and distributed as follows:

Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July: Food Parcel distribution to 600 households. Monday 22nd – Friday 26th July: Comfort and Household Parcel distribution to 600 families. Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th July: Distribution of WASH Hygiene Parcels to 600 households.

Our commitment to transparency and thorough vetting ensured that aid reached the most vulnerable in the aftermath of this disaster.

We have plenty of highlights from our project in Magwaveni (Tongaat). We have seen God doing wonders in this lovely community. From day one, when we were assessing, distributing building vouchers, food parcels, household items, and hygiene packs, we have witnessed God taking care of His beloved children.

We've seen people being set free from bondage. Our morning devotions are filled with praise to our Father.
