In a devastating incident, over 300 homes had gone up in flames at an informal settlement in Isipingo.
The Dakota informal settlement, located just a few hundred meters from the beach, had been severely affected by the blaze.

The settlement, already severely impacted by the previous year’s floods, was an area where poverty was rife. Fires were, unfortunately, a regular occurrence in this region.
Only last March, a similar incident had occurred when a fire had gutted homes, leaving over 40 people without a place to live.
