Zambia Food Relief
Kwa-Zulu Natal | January 2020Zambia is experiencing its worst drought in a century. Adverse climatic conditions have left more than 2.3 million people in Zambia severely food insecure. That translates to 19% of the total population. Large parts of southern and western Zambia received their lowest seasonal rainfall totals since at least 1981 when records began, which has resulted in poor harvests.
How we helped
CityHope Disaster Relief was able to secure sufficient funding from the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) to provide 25kg bags of breakfast meal for 175 families. The distribution was facilitated by the David Livingstone Memorial Presbyterian Church in Livingstone, Zambia in January 2020 to a selection of the neediest and the elderly in the community. The community members were overwhelmed by the support and were most grateful for the relief that met their current needs. The church members were grateful for the opportunity to pray with and minister to the community and used the opportunity to encourage them to persevere and keep their eyes on Jesus in these trying times.
