The towns of New Hanover and Mpolweni in inland KZN were flattened in November 2019 when a highly destructive tornado tore through the towns, resulting in entire villages being destroyed and leaving hundreds of families without shelter. The KZN Disaster Response Team once again united to respond and support the families with food supplies, blankets and plastic sheeting for temporary shelter. CityHope then continued to raise funds to support the community further and was able assist the local church with replacing many of its internal furnishings that had been destroyed.
