A fire destroying 40 shacks caused devastation to a small community in the informal area of Chappus in Umhlanga Rocks near the N2 freeway. The start of the fire was unknown but the blaze soon became uncontrollable. Fortunately no one was hurt in the incident.
CityHope were alerted to the disaster and were quick to partner with Danie Grobelaar of CityHill Umhlanga. Danie’s team along with volunteers and response leaders of CityHope travelled to Chappus and delivered 50 Hope Kits to the families facing the aftermath of their homes having been completely destroyed by the fiery blaze.
The team returned a few days later armed with building materials to help assist the families in the rebuilding of their homes. Our 1 tonne bakkie, sponsored by Hillcrest Toyota was a huge help to us on the day!

Needless to say, the community was immensely grateful to those who came to help them rebuild their lives and to give them a sense of hope following the ordeal.
