The Challenge

Following a fire which burnt down parts of the St. Monica’s Children’s Home on the Bluff, Cityhope Disaster Relief based in Hillcrest were called on to assist.

Response

The home’s director Althea Govender informed CityHope’s team that some of the children had been severely traumatized by the fiery devastation which destroyed most of their personal belongings including their clothing, toys, school books and bedding.

Having received a large donation of new clothing sponsored by PEP Stores, the team along with support from Pastor Gary Charlton of CityHill Church on the Bluff decided to call upon the home to evaluate the extent of the damage and to see how they could contribute in some way.

Feedback

Stocked with a bakkie-load of new clothing, Pastor Charlton offloaded the new garments from PEP Stores to St. Monica’s where the children who have lost most of their belongings can now look forward to receiving some new and much needed clothing in preparation of the impending chilly winter ahead.
