Malawi Response 2019

Some 200,000 people in Malawi have been displaced by floods that have affected half of the country’s 28 districts. The government has recorded at least 56 deaths and over 500 injuries, as of Wednesday 13th March. Many of those affected are in evacuation camps because of floods that have destroyed their houses, damaged roads, washed away bridges and killed livestock. The flooding was a result of a tropical cyclone that blew in from neighbouring Mozambique.

CityHope’s Response

CityHope has partnered with Crown Ministries in Blantyre, Malawi. Crown Ministries will secure the relief aid locally and identify the families that are most in need. CityHope will arrive in Malawi once the relief aid has been received by Crown Ministries and we will then work together in distributing it to the families whose names have been captured on the list of those affected.
